Collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture in BBT
SUA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, is playing a key role in implementing the BBT program. The goal is to harness the potential of the youth to drive agricultural innovation and productivity. The program offers a wide range of opportunities in various agricultural sectors, especially in the value chains of strategic crops. Through this partnership, SUA and the Ministry aim to provide necessary skills, knowledge, and entrepreneurial training to young people interested in the agriculture sector.
Goals and Implementation of the BBT Program
The BBT program is designed with several ambitious goals, one of which is to create employment for 20,000 youth and women by 2030. These jobs will be provided through a combination of skills development activities, such as internships, and the establishment of 12,000 economic activities at the village level. These activities include the development of large-scale farms, known as block farms, which will support the production of strategic crops. By promoting self-employment and entrepreneurship in agriculture, BBT hopes to build a future where youth are leaders in agricultural innovation and sustainability.
Employment and Extension Services under BBT-AEES
One of the key initiatives under the BBT program is the BBT Agricultural Extension Entrepreneurship Scheme (BBT-AEES). This scheme is designed to address the shortage of extension services in Tanzania by employing qualified agricultural graduates. Under BBT-AEES, 1,300 positions are being offered to graduates with backgrounds in agriculture to work as extension officers. These extension officers will be primarily responsible for offering advisory services to farmers, particularly in the cotton industry.

The employment offered under BBT-AEES is temporary but provides graduates with valuable work experience in agricultural extension services. The scheme aims to enhance productivity in cotton farming, promote modern agricultural techniques, and contribute to the overall development of the sector. It also provides young professionals with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience while contributing to the country’s agricultural transformation.
This initiative not only strengthens the agricultural sector but also aligns with the broader goal of improving Tanzania’s economy by fostering job creation and agricultural entrepreneurship among its youth.
