JOB VACANCIES AT NATIONAL MUSEUM OF TANZANIA (NMT)The National Museum of Tanzania (NMT) was established as a body of corporate under the National Museum Act No.7 of 1980 as a scientific, educational and cultural institution. Among others, key responsibilities of the NMT are to collect, research, preserve, conserve, exhibit and provide education on all materials related to
Tanzania’s cultural and natural heritage.

In preservation of natural and cultural
heritage, the National Museum of Tanzania disseminate such knowledge to the public
through cultural and education programs, exhibitions, publications, print and
electronic media.

NMT has seven Museum stations and several monuments and sites
located in six zones around the United Republic of Tanzania. Currently, the
Headquarters of National Museum of Tanzania is at Shaaban Robert Street, Ilala
District in Dar es salaam region.

 

1. Museum Attendant II – 3 Posts

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain cleanliness of exhibits and exhibition halls.
  • Monitor visitor movement in the exhibition halls.
  • Attend to visitors and provide tours as needed.
  • Ensure security of collections in exhibition halls.
  • Assist in handling objects within the exhibition halls.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Secondary Education Certificate (CSEE) with passes in Kiswahili and English.
  • Certificate in Hospitality Management, Customer Service, Heritage Management, or Tour Guiding from a recognized institution.

2. Conservator II (Museum Conservation) – 2 Posts

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in determining the extent and causes of deterioration of collections.
  • Examine the condition of collections and recommend proper treatment.
  • Monitor and record environmental conditions in exhibition halls and storages.
  • Participate in the restoration of damaged collections and structures.
  • Ensure cleanliness of collections.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Heritage Management, Archaeology, Anthropology, or Palaeontology from a recognized institution.

3. Conservator II (Monuments and Sites) – 2 Posts

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in field data collection, computer data entry, and analysis.
  • Prepare and submit technical reports and draft manuscripts.
  • Train and supervise other technicians.
  • Assist in planning specific research projects and preparing fundable proposals.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Geology, Architecture, or Heritage Management from a recognized institution.

4. Curator II (Zoology) – 1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in collection and acquisition of museum collections.
  • Document and register museum collections.
  • Store and conserve museum collections.
  • Evaluate and report on the status of museum collections.
  • Participate in public education programs and exhibitions.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology, Botany, or Aquatic Sciences from a recognized institution.

5. Curator II (History) – 2 Posts

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in collection and acquisition of museum collections.
  • Document and register museum collections.
  • Store and conserve museum collections.
  • Evaluate and report on the status of museum collections.
  • Conduct temporary, special, and permanent exhibitions.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in History from a recognized institution.

6. Curator II (Education) – 1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in collection and acquisition of museum collections.
  • Document and register museum collections.
  • Store and conserve museum collections.
  • Prepare public education kits and conduct exhibitions.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education majoring in History from a recognized institution.

7. Research Assistant II (Parastatal Researcher) – 1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in field data collection and analysis.
  • Prepare technical reports and draft manuscripts.
  • Train and supervise other technicians.
  • Assist in planning research projects and preparing proposals.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology from a recognized institution, with at least Upper Second Class or minimum B+ for unclassified degrees.

8. Research Officer II (Art and Design) – 1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform field data collection and analysis.
  • Conduct specific research activities with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare and submit manuscript drafts.
  • Train and supervise technicians.
  • Assist in planning research projects and proposals.
  • Perform other official duties as assigned.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Master’s and Bachelor’s Degree in Art and Design from a recognized institution, with at least Upper Second Class or minimum B+ for unclassified degrees.

9. Research Officer II (Architecture) – 1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field data collection and analysis.
  • Undertake specific research activities with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare and submit manuscript drafts.
  • Train and supervise technicians.
  • Assist in planning research projects and proposals.
  • Perform other official duties as assigned.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Master’s and Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from a recognized institution, with at least Upper Second Class or minimum B+ for unclassified degrees.

10. Artisan II (Plumbing) – 2 Posts

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify materials/spare parts for work.
  • Perform preventive and routine maintenance on plumbing systems.
  • Assist in major maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Inspect and repair lighting systems.
  • Ensure proper upkeep of the working environment.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Form IV/VI Certificate (CSEE/ACSEE) plus Trade Test Certificate Grade I/II in Plumbing from a recognized technical institution.
